The History of JSIM

This Society was originally the Japan Society for the Study of Office Automation, which was established in November 1979. Under the concept of 'Office Automation', the Society played a role in hosting an academic place, to practically and theoretically conduct research, not only on Office System itself, but also on Information Systems; Management System, Enterprise System, Information Management System, Social Information System and many other phenomena of Information Systems.

This Society is the first in Japan, to carry an academic research on Information Systems Theory, under the basis of Business Administration. As a Society belonging to the 3rd subcommittee of the Science Council of Japan, we have been carrying a pivotal role in developing a competent field of research from the beginning to the end.

However, due to the growth of automation in the recent years, a broader research is becoming a necessity. For that reason, as of April 1st, 2007, newer vision is carried, and our contribution still continues, by altering the Society's name to Japan Society for Information and Management.
